Ugly sweaters and stingy gift-giving featured at teen holiday party Dec. 19
(STILLWATER, OKLA. / Dec. 4, 2013) –– Young adults in grades 6-12 are invited to attend Stillwater Public Library’s “Teen Holiday Party” on Thursday, Dec. 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The party will include holiday themed snacks, contests and games.
“Last year’s program featuring a game of ‘Stingy Santa’ was a big hit,” said Emily States, librarian. “Our Teen Advisory Committee was adamant that we play it again this year.”
“Stingy Santa” is a game in which each participant brings a gift with a value of no more than $5. Each person will get to open a gift or “steal” a gift that has already been opened. Library staff will add in some higher valued items courtesy of the Friends of the Library to make the game a little more interesting.
“This year we’ve also decided to celebrate those terrible vests, sweatshirts and sweaters that always show up under the tree,” said States. “We all seem to have one tucked in the back of our closet.”
Participants are encouraged to wear their ugly holiday sweater to the event, and then model the attire for a contest. All attendees will vote on their favorite ugly sweater, and the winner will be awarded a $25 gift certificate to T.J. Maxx.
In addition to the two bigger games, activities such as decorating each other like holiday trees and snacking on hot chocolate and cookies will be included. A large selection of young adult-oriented holiday books will be on display and available for check out in the teen area.
“This event will be a good way for teens to blow off some steam as the semester winds down and before the holidays really get started,” said States. “It might also be a good time for parents to sneak downtown for some last minute holiday shopping.”
The Teen Holiday Party” is free and registration is encouraged. To sign-up, please call 405-372-3633 x8106 or email email@example.com. For more information, visit the library online at http://library.stillwater.org.
