The City of Stillwater is widening and rebuilding east 19th Avenue and south Jardot Road to accommodate existing traffic and make room for future traffic growth.
"It's a big project, and it affects lots of people and businesses on the east side of town, so we want to make sure residents are informed and know what to expect," said Sherry Fletcher, city spokesperson.
The reconstruction projects, which begin will this summer, will be completed in multiple phases:
- Jardot Road from 12th Avenue to McElroy Road will be widened from two lanes to four between McElroy and 6th Avenue. The section between 12th and 6th will be rebuilt as a wider two-lane roadway. Sidewalks will be added to both sides of the road from 12th to McElroy. The existing water lines will also be replaced.
- 19th Avenue from Main Street to Perkins Road and Jardot Road from 19th to 12th Avenues. Both roads will be widened from the existing narrow roadway to 26 feet wide, providing 13 feet wide travel lanes. New side ditches will be constructed to improve drainage. The existing water lines will also be replaced on 19th Avenue from Perkins Road to Jardot Road and along Jardot Road from 19th Avenue to 12th Avenue.
Both City of Stillwater projects, funded through the Half-Cent Transportation Sales Tax, are designed to accommodate existing and future traffic demands and make the roads safer for both vehicles and pedestrians.
"We hope to meet with our neighbors and provide them useful information that will help them through the reconstruction," said Fletcher.
