Hydrant Flushing Program

Hydrant Flushing Program

We periodically flush in certain areas of the water systems to maintain water quality. During this time, you may notice water service crews working at fire hydrants and see water running down the street.

During the flushing procedure:

  • You may experience low-water pressure.

  • If possible, avoid using water by not running washing machines or dishwashers and limiting toilet flushes.

After crews are gone:

  • When flushing is complete, you may need to flush water through faucets for a few minutes to remove any entrapped air.

  • If water from faucets is discolored or cloudy, open each cold water faucet and allow the water to run for a few minutes. This should clear up any temporary discoloration.

  • If your water does not clear up, call the City of Stillwater Operations Department.
