For more than 25 years, Robert Black has served the City of Stillwater Fire Department. In addition to his time as a firefighter/EMT, Robert has spent most of his time as a fire instructor and rescue instructor. In 2008, he was promoted to training officer, and one of the highlights while in this position was directing the acquisition of the department’s training facility that provides firefighters a safe, controlled environment to practice their skills.

In 2010, the City of Stillwater purchased a data management system to manage all of the incidents, training and inventory of the police and fire departments. Since its installation, Black has served as the lead administrator of the system for the fire department. According to Black, working as a staff officer has allowed him many opportunities to work with city staff and members of the community, which he finds very rewarding.

On November 4, 2014, Black was promoted to assistant chief of the fire department.
