The 19th Annual Family Fishing Tournament is set for Monday, July 4 at the south boat ramp at Boomer Lake (Washington and Lakeview).
(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / May 23, 2016) — It’s time to get ready for the 19th Annual Family Fishing Tournament to be held on Monday, July 4 from 6–11 a.m. and includes categories for boating and non-boating teams.
Registration begins at 5:30 a.m. at Boomer Lake’s south boat ramp at the corner of Washington Street and Lakeview Road. Teams are allowed to start competing as soon as they are registered. There is a $15 entry fee for each team of four family members.
“In 2015 we had 42 teams register for the tournament and we would love to see that number grow this year,” Recreation Supervisor Rachel Janway said. “Everyone who participates comes out to have fun and enjoy the basic sport of fishing. We see teams return year after year because they had fun.”
Adults participating in the tournament should carry their fishing licenses on them during the event. Boats should also be properly registered and all participants should follow state boating laws while competing.
There should be one wearable, U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket for each person in a boat, according to the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety. Children 12 years or younger should always wear a life jacket while on a boat.
Weigh in begins at 11 a.m. and prizes will be awarded to winning participants in both categories. Hot dogs and drinks will also be available for registered families and inflatables will be on location.
It is recommended to buy tackle and other fishing supplies before the day of the competition because of the tournament’s early start time.
