(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / Feb. 4, 2020) – The City of Stillwater Environmental Programs and Stormwater divisions are coordinating the Annual Trash-Off event to be held on Saturday, March 28 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.  Volunteers will meet at the Stillwater Community Center at 315 W 8th Ave.  Contact the Environmental Programs division at 405.533.8482 by March 20 to RSVP the number of people in your group. Individuals are also welcome.

The City of Stillwater began coordinating the Annual Trash-Off event in 2006.  These events continue to enable citizens to volunteer and clean up trash from areas all around town.  During these events, citizens take to the streets and streams to show that “Litter is Not OK”.  Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. An award for the group that collects the most trash will be presented and hot dogs and drinks will be provided as well. This is an opportunity for individuals to receive verified community service hours. This is also an opportunity for groups to clean a Stillwater creek or stream, if desired.

The Environmental Programs division will also provide work gloves, safety vests and trash bags for participants. For additional information on the event, contact the Environmental Programs division at 405.533.8482 or visit stillwater.org.

Trash-Off is a success thanks to volunteers

MEDIA RELEASE

(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / April 4, 2018) – Our city streets were beautified this past weekend thanks to the volunteers who attended the Stillwater Trash-Off.

This year’s event kicked off at the Stillwater Community Center on Saturday, March 31, where 86 participants gathered to help with the event.

A total of 113 bags of trash, a Christmas tree, a suitcase, 17 baseballs, a large antique clock and recyclables were collected.

“This year’s event had beautiful weather and a large turnout of youth,” said Chris Franks, environmental programs manager and coordinator of the event. "It is great to see Stillwater parents and groups teaching environmental stewardship.”

The Stillwater Bible Church group received the Trash-Off trophy for collecting 25 bags of trash on 19th Avenue between Main Street and Perkins Road. Their trophy is displayed at the Stillwater Public Library.

“I would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the volunteers who donated their time to make Stillwater a cleaner place,” Franks said.

The City began the Trash-Off 12 years ago to prevent trash from getting into waterways.

If you would like more information on the event, call Franks at 405.533.8482 or email cfranks@stillwater.org.
