City of Stillwater Requests Community Input on Projects for Grant Funding

(Stillwater, OK) — The City of Stillwater is seeking public input on how to allocate federal funding it should receive for the benefit of people with low to moderate incomes.

The first meeting is Tuesday, February 28, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the City of Stillwater Municipal Building, 723 S. Lewis St., room 1112B. The second meeting is Thursday, March 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the City of Stillwater Community Center, 315 W. 8th Avenue, Room 100.

Community Development Block Grant projects are financed in part by funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as administered by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce.

Projects and activities that CDBG typically fund include the following:

  • Economic development
  • Park and playground equipment
  • Water and wastewater system improvements
  • Public facilities such as community centers, museums, or libraries
  • Fire protection
  • Streets
  • Housing demolition
  • Senior citizen centers
  • Gas and electrical system improvements
  • Stormwater drainage improvements

The primary national objective of the CDBG program is to develop communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment. Recent CDBG projects include:

2011: Waterline replacement in the area of Doty, Arrington, and Berry streets and 3rd Avenue

2012: Sewer line replacement between 4th and 6th avenues along Pine, Gray, Stanley, and Blakely streets

2013: Stormwater drainage improvements in the area along 19th Avenue and Sangre Road and Stonegate Avenue and Raintree Drive

2014: Leigh and Hall drainage channel restoration and improvements, Phase 1

2015: Leigh and Hall drainage channel improvements, Phase 2

2015: Tucker Addition, Fern, Chester, and Hartford water line replacements

2016: ADA-compliant sidewalks, crosswalks, and bus stops on Airport Road from Wings of Hope Family Crisis Services

2017: Expansion of skate park at Strickland Park

2018: New all-inclusive playground addition to Strickland Park

2021: 12th Street and Duncan drainage improvements
