Second reading of face covering ordinance set for Thursday

UPDATE
(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / July 8, 2020) – The second reading date is set: Stillwater City Council will consider Ordinance No. 3452 requiring face coverings in public for a second and final time. The special meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 9.
The proposed ordinance requires that everyone wears a face covering in all indoor public spaces, including educational institutions, food services, retail and personal service establishments that provides goods or services directly to the public. Exceptions to this requirement are outlined within the ordinance. If the ordinance passes on the second read, it will remain in effect through Nov. 30, 2020. The meeting will be held over Zoom, a videoconference platform. Residents are encouraged to watch virtually, though the Council Hearing Room at the Stillwater Municipal Building (723 S. Lewis St.) will be open to the public. Face coverings are required in the Council Hearing Room, and will be provided to residents upon entry.

City Council advances face covering ordinance; date for second reading to be determined

(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / July 7, 2020) – Last night, Stillwater City Council unanimously advanced Ordinance No. 3452 requiring face coverings in public, with proposed changes. The ordinance must be considered at a second reading and published before going into effect— the date for the second reading is not yet determined.
This ordinance comes as a result of concern for the recent rise in COVID-19 cases within the Stillwater community. The ordinance requires that everyone wears a face covering in all public spaces, including educational institutions, food services, retail and personal service establishments that provides goods or services directly to the public. Exceptions to this requirement are outlined within the ordinance. If the ordinance passes on the second read, it will remain in effect through Nov. 30, 2020.
Residents may view the initial ordinance that council considered here. This ordinance is not in effect and may be altered according to council’s recommendations when presented at second reading.
