(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / Jan. 16, 2018) – After 30 years of service, Financial Operations Manager Tammy Brown will retire from the City of Stillwater this month.
Brown was an instrumental player in helping the City earn the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) the past 28 years. She started with preparing worksheets for the document and ultimately oversaw the preparation of the completed document.
“I will miss seeing my fellow employees every day and I wish them well as they continue to serve our community,” Brown said. “They have shaped and grown my heart with their selflessness, willingness and gratitude. I am a better person for having rubbed elbows with them.”
She started her career with the City in the Finance Department as an internal auditor preparing bank reconciliations and maintaining asset records. During her career, she has prepared budget and capital planning documents, citywide forecasts, and the Stillwater Utilities Authority financial report. Her current duties as finance operations manager include oversight of the accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, banking and grants functions for the City.
“Tammy has had many important leadership roles in our department, and we are going to miss her dearly,” Chief Financial Officer Melissa Reames said. “Our department appreciates the great example Tammy set for our team and will continue to strive for excellence in our financial reporting. We hope she has a wonderful retirement.”
In 2002, Brown became the 13th person to earn the certified public finance officer (CPFO) distinction from the GFOA. She also served as president, vice president, treasurer and at-large member on the Oklahoma Government Finance Officers Association board. She is a 2012 graduate of Leadership Stillwater.
A come-and-go retirement celebration for Brown is on Friday, Jan. 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. in room 2073 at the Stillwater Municipal Building at 723 S. Lewis St.
