Stillwater has been a community-owned electric utility since 1901. Stillwater Electric Utility returns profits to support city services including public safety, parks, streets and the public library. We aim to provide the best possible service for the best possible price. We are able to respond quickly to emergencies and power outages because our employees live in and around Stillwater.
It is one of 191 of the nation’s more than 2,000 public power utilities to earn the Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3®) designation from the American Public Power Association for providing consumers with the highest degree of reliable and safe electric service.
City of Stillwater Electric Utility Department is a part of the Stillwater Utilities Authority (SUA). The department is comprised of the following administrative units:
- Administration: Provides overall supervision and direction to the department.
Engineering: Responsible for the design of electric system additions to serve new customers as well as improvements to maintain and enhance existing utility infrastructure.
Generation & Transmission: Responsible for the delivery of purchased power to the electric distribution system, production of local peaking or emergency power as needed, and dispatching of crews for after-hours utility service calls involving water, sewer, or electric. The G&T division operates and maintains 21 miles of 69,000 volt local transmission lines, 8 electric substations, and electric generating equipment with a combined output of 35 million watts.
Electric Distribution: Responsible for operation and maintenance of the electric distribution system including repairs to restore power and construction of system extensions to serve additional customers. The electric distribution system includes approximately 400 miles of overhead lines; 300 miles of underground lines; 8,585 distribution transformers; 12,238 poles; 3,791 street lights; and related electrical equipment.The Distribution division constructs and maintains the high voltage transmission system.
