Located less than an hours drive from both Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Lake McMurtry offers swimming, fishing, boating, camping, mountain biking, hiking, bird watching and hunting.
The lake serves as a flood control reservoir, water supply and recreation area. At normal pool elevation (952), the lake covers approximately 1,155 acres with 2,306 acres of additional surrounding park land. Water depths range from 55 feet near the dam and less than 1 foot on the north end. The lake has 27 miles of shoreline.
Lake McMurtry is owned by the City of Stillwater, and operated by Lake McMurtry Friends, a non-profit organization.
Recreation Areas/Convenience Store and Bait Shops
- East Recreation Area is located six miles west of State Highway 177 on Burris Road.
- West Recreation Area is located four miles west of Stillwater on Highway 51, turn north on Redlands Road and follow paved road and park signs.
Permits are available at the lake and at Cooper’s Bicycle Shop, 220 S. Main St.
