(STILLWATER, OKLA., March 28, 2013) — Looking for hard to find hobby books, classics with tons of character, or a bushel of novels to read during the hot summer months ahead? Book lovers will find all of these and more Thursday, April 18, through Sunday, April 21, at the Friends of the Stillwater Public Library Spring Used Book Sale.
“We love watching box upon box of books start to stack up as the sale grows closer,” said Lynda Reynolds, library director. “We typically offer over 20,000 items at each sale. As people start their spring cleaning, we’ll be getting more and more. It’s one of the nice things about a community donation sale; each one brings in a whole new batch of treasures.”
The annual sale includes all types of books and media including hardbacks, paperbacks, DVDs, audio books, LPs, cassettes and VCR tapes. Adult paperbacks are .50, while hardbacks are $1.00. The material is divided into easy to browse sections such as popular novels, mysteries, westerns, large print items, non-fiction, biographies, hobbies, self-help, religion, recreation, cooking, health, foreign language materials, and old and rare volumes. An entire section of the sales room is devoted to children’s books which are .25 each.
“It’s hard to resist an entire floor packed with books at these prices,” said Reynolds. “Even at garage sales, books seem to be running at much higher prices.”
The sale begins with a “Members Only Preview” Thursday, April 18, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friends of the Library memberships will be available at the door or during business hours at Stillwater Public Library. Membership is $10 per year and runs from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31.
“Although the sale is for members only, anyone can purchase a membership when they arrive,” said Reynolds. “The Thursday sale has always been a big hit, so we make sure everyone has a chance to purchase books, by limiting sales to 100 items per person on Thursday.”
The sale continues Friday, April 19, when it opens to the general public, from noon to 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On Sunday, April 21, the Friends host a “Bag Sale” where buyers can load a bag as full as they like for $1 each. The number of bags purchased is not limited. The bag sale runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
“The Friends are the library’s biggest supporters providing funding for all programming, supplementing our collections, and helping us when we start new collections and services” said Reynolds. “We’re very fortunate to have such a hardworking group of Friends and such a generous community.”
