Frequently Asked Questions
- Who do I contact if I have an electric emergency?
During normal business hours, please call 405-742-8230 and after hours, please call 405-372-3292
- What do I do if I see a downed power line?
Please report it immediately to 405-372-3292. Do not approach or attempt to move a downed power line. Let professional utility workers handle the situation.
- Where does my electric come from?
Our current source for wholesale power is the Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA), headquartered in Vinita, OK. Electricity is delivered across GRDA’s transmission system to four delivery locations in or near the city. During times of peak demand or emergency, some electricity can be produced locally at the city’s Boomer Lake Station located at the south end of Boomer Lake.
- How does the utility maintain tree clearance from overhead lines?
The City contracts annually for tree clearance services. Only trees located within easements, rights-of-way, or those growing into areas that also include overhead electric lines are subject to trimming by the city’s contractor to maintain safe operating clearances between trees and energized lines.
- Will the utility trim the tree in my yard touching the overhead wires to my house?
The City’s tree contractor will not trim trees on private property. However, call us at 742-8230 and the city will come out to temporarily disconnect the overhead service wires allowing the owner or his contractor to safely trim the tree that is on private property. This disconnection/reconnection service is provided at no cost to the customer so long as it occurs during the utility’s normal business hours.
