Tax forms available at Stillwater Public Library

(STILLWATER, OKLA. / Jan. 3, 2011) –Late tax law changes, delays in tax form printing, and the end of IRS mailing forms/instructions may have caused more than a little confusion for many taxpayers this year. At the Stillwater Public Library, many tax forms are now available.
“We have always worked hard to get forms stocked for the public early in the tax season,” said Lynda Reynolds, library director. “The late printing by the government has delayed that, but forms we have received are now available and free to pick up at the library. We understand tax materials will not be available at the Stillwater Post Office this year.”
According to Reynolds, the federal government’s tax printing office, which is no longer mailing federal forms to taxpayers, is still delayed in providing libraries with instruction booklets for the 1040 and 1040A. Form 2441 “Child and Dependent Care Expenses” is also delayed due to a printing error. The instructions and this form are now available on the internet at www.irs.gov.
“We are expecting the instruction booklets this week, but have been advised that it could be as late as Mid-February,” said Reynolds. “Anyone in the community should feel free to call, email or text us to find out whether these items have arrived.”
Though the library staff can assist customers in printing, the 1040 and 1040A instructions are more then eighty pages each. The cost to print at the library is ten cents per page. For people who need to prepare their returns immediately, Reynolds recommends reading the instructions online to save the eight to ten dollar printing fee. Taxpayers can also ask to borrow a copy that can be used in the library.
The Oklahoma tax forms will not be provided to libraries this year.
“The state has slowly been phasing out the library tax form service for several years,” said Reynolds. “Through the hard work of our local AARP Tax-Aide volunteers, we were able to get our hands on a limited number of packets the past few years. Unfortunately, this year we are not able to get them.”
The state forms are available for printing on the Oklahoma Tax Commission’s webpage at http://www.oktax.state.ok.us/. Both the State and federal tax site links are available on the library’s homepage at http://library.stillwater.org/.
