(STILLWATER, OKLA. / Feb. 4, 2011) – Many have eagerly awaited the release of data collected in the 2010 Census. For those who need help mining the wealth information available online the OSU Library is offering a free hands-on census data workshop at 10 a.m. March 4.

“Making Sense of the Census” will be presented by Steve Barker, Oklahoma Department of Commerce, and Steve Beleu, Oklahoma Department of Libraries.

The focus of the workshop is learning to use the newly updated and redesigned American Fact Finder search engine. Baker and Beleu will discuss how to find better information and navigate online census resources quickly.

Participants will learn what can be done with census information, how to locate invaluable economic and business data and how to use this information to generate data rich maps.

“This workshop is for anyone who regularly needs local, state and comparison data,” said Beleu. “Community leaders, business planners, educators and librarians will all find this session a valuable lesson in finding information for project planning and in serving community members.”

The three hour workshop will be held in Room 206 in the Edmon Low Library on the OSU-Stillwater campus. It's free and open to the public. Seating is limited and registration is required. To enroll, call (405) 327-3633, ext. 124 or e-mail sdelano@stillwater.org.
