Workshop planned to help small businesses understand and meet tax obligations
(STILLWATER, OKLA. / Aug. 15, 2011) –Tax professionals will be on hand at the Stillwater Public Library on Saturday, Oct. 1 to instruct small businesses owners on how to manage their tax responsibilities. Attorney Monika Turek with OSU’s Spears School of Business and Bruce Smith with the Oklahoma Tax Commission will conduct the workshop “Business Taxes: Simplified & Explained,” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“Business and financial literacy is essential to our community,” said Lynda Reynolds, library director. “The library is committed to all types of literacy, so we are grateful to have our partners from the Meridian Technology Center, the Payne County Cooperative Extension, and the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce to help us bring this program to Stillwater.”
Turek, an accounting instructor, will provide instruction on a comprehensive array of federal tax topics using materials provided by the Internal Revenue Service. Topics include recordkeeping, payroll withholdings, self-employment taxes, deductions, depreciation and many other business tax related issues. Smith will provide instruction on state taxes which include state withholding, sales and use taxes, the business activity tax, and business state income taxes.
The workshop— schedule for Cowboy football’s bye week—is free and open to the public. Lunch will be provided by the Friends of the Library. To register for the workshop, email sdelano@stillwater.org or call 405-372-3633 x124.
