'Learn Create Share @ Your Library' during Teen Tech Week 2010

(STILLWATER, OKLA. / March 3, 2010) — Local teens will be tuning in at the library as Stillwater Public Library celebrates the third annual Teen Tech Week March 7-13. The library asks students in grades 6-12, “How Techie Are You?”
On Thursday, March 11 at 4 p.m., teens will take the Robot Challenge as teams create robots from various scrap materials, surf for the answers to the Internet Scavenger Hunt, and play Wii games. Prizes will be awarded, and refreshments will be served.
Recilla Harms, teen librarian, said, “I know that it is often difficult for teens to participate in library programs during the school year; therefore, I have created an On-Your-Own Photo Contest.”
Any teen can participate in Teen Tech Week with this activity. The students will use a robot pattern provided by the library to make a paper robot. They will take photos of their robot in various locations in Stillwater. Contest information is available at the library or on the library’s website at library.stillwater.org. Photo submissions are due March 31. The prize for the contest is a Hastings gift certificate.
Teen Tech Week is a national initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) aimed at teens, their parents, educators and other concerned adults. The purpose of the initiative is to ensure that teens are competent and ethical users of technologies, especially those that are offered through libraries. Teen Tech Week encourages teens to use libraries' non-print resources for education and recreation, and to recognize that librarians are qualified, trusted professionals in the field of information technology.
Other upcoming programs include "The Poetry Cafe" on Thursday, April 16 and "Comic Book Day" on Saturday, May 1.
Presented by the Stillwater Public Library and co-sponsored by the Friends of the Library and KOSU 91.7 fm, this program is free of charge. The Stillwater Public Library is located at 1107 S. Duck St. (the corner of Duck and 12th Avenue). For more information, contact the Stillwater Public Library by phone at (405) 372-3633 or by e-mail at askalibrarian@stillwater.org .
