(STILLWATER, OKLA. / Jan. 6, 2010) –– Feeling frazzled after the busy holidays?  Join the Stillwater Public Library for "Get Organized Month" throughout the month of January.  The library is offering series of events to help the community de-clutter.

On Wednesday, Jan, 13 community members are invited to participate in the Clutter Club, a monthly meeting organized by the library.  The club helps people stay on a clutter-free track and meets every second Wednesday of the month at noon.  At each meeting, club members share personal clutter challenges, learn methods for keeping organized, and complete monthly mini-homework assignments.

During the January meeting, participants will discuss paper clutter and visitors will be invited to participate in the club’s monthly mini-purge. A mini-purge is when attendees bring with them up to five unneeded or unwanted items, which be later be donated to charity.

On Saturday, Jan 23 at 10 a.m., local professional organizer Shannon Cowan presents “Minding Your Matters and Your Memories: Tips and Discussions on Organizing Paper and Memorabilia.”  Cowan will teach participants how to get a handle on incoming paper and how to keep it organized.  Cowan will also share tips for keeping and maintaining treasured papers and documents.  Guest speaker Mark Gunkel, CPA, will be on hand to discuss how long to keep financial papers.

A question-and-answer session will follow the program along with lunch and great door prizes will be given away.  Child care for children three years and over will be provided.  Registration is required.  Please e-mail askalibrarian@stillwater.org  or call (405) 372-3633, ext. 106 to register.

“Get Organized Month” activities will conclude Saturday, Jan. 30 with the annual Community Paper Shred that will be held in the Stillwater Public Library parking lot.  From 10 a.m. to noon, area residents are invited to bring up to four boxes of paper materials to be shred on-site by professional shredding company Shred Away.  This event is a drive through, so participants will have their paper material unloaded and shredded for them.

The Stillwater Public Library is located at 1107 S. Duck St. (the corner of Duck and 12th Ave.). For more information, contact the Stillwater Public Library by phone at (405) 372-3633 or visit the web site at library.stillwater.org.  Library hours are Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. This event is cosponsored by the Friends of the Library and KOSU.
