(STILLWATER, OKLA. / Oct. 12, 2009) — Downtown Stillwater and the City of Stillwater will be working with the Central Oklahoma Community Action Agency to help fight hunger at the 19th Annual Downtown Halloween Festival Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 5 to 9 p.m. Festival goers are asked to bring a nonperishable food item--canned food, boxes of breakfast cereal, juice--and they will receive commemorative buttons that will be good for discounts at selected Downtown Stillwater businesses.
"We are seeing people that we have never seen before that are coming to get food from us," said Clara Lewis, development coordinator for COCCA. "Not only do the donations have to keep pace with the demand, but the uncertainty of the future means we have to continue to seek donations in anticipation of the demand."
"This is the second year the halloween festival has supported a food drive, and festival goers are really supportive of the idea of helping others will attending a free and fun community event; however, donations are not necessary to enjoy the free activities and trick-or-treat with the merchants," said Angela McLaughlin, Business Improvement District coordinator. "We are happy to partner with COCAA and help the community in this way."
