City of Stillwater is hosting a Homebuyer Education Class Saturday, Aug. 11

(STILLWATER, OKLA. / July 10, 2012) — The City of Stillwater is hosting a Homebuyer Education Class Saturday, Aug. 11 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Stillwater Public Library. Those interested are encouraged to pre-register.

"The Homebuyer Education Class is a good way for residents to learn from experts about mortgages, loan applications, insurance, credit and so much more," said Valerie Silvers, grants coordinator.

The class, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.on Saturday, Aug. 11 at the Stillwater Public Library, 1107 S. Duck St.

Topics covered during the class include:

  • How to prepare for homeownership
  • Loan applications/Qualifying
  • Budgeting for a home/what you can afford
  • Money management techniques
  • Purchase contracts
  • Homeowners insurance
  • Home inspections
  • Mortgages & foreclosure
  • Credit—Is yours for or is it against you? 
  • Understand the process
  • The closing process.
  • Fair housing          

Silvers said, "Because the class fills up quickly, we encourage interested homebuyers to pre-register early."

Classroom materials and snacks are provided for each registered adult participant. Class will be dismissed for lunch on your own.
