(STILLWATER, OKLA. / July 1, 2012) — The City of Stillwater is pleased to announced that the monoliths at the Payne County Veterans Memorial have been repaired just in time for the Boomer Blast celebrations this July 4. The memorial was damaged following high winds last April.
"The Payne County Veterans Memorial burns brightly once again," said Gene Hoyt, veteran of the U.S. Air Force and one of the memorial's founders.
SI Memorials, the company that initially installed the monuments, agreed to reset and replace the pieces that were broken from the fall.
"The City appreciates SI Memorials hard work in ensuring the Veterans Memorial was restored by July 4 in time for the sixth anniversary of its dedication," Internal Services Director Robert Barker said.
The Payne County Veterans Memorial, located on the east shore of Boomer Lake Park along Husband Street, was dedicated on July 4, 2006.
Boomer Blast is the City of Stillwater's annual fireworks show.
