    Part of the City of Stillwater Community Center's Living Out Loud 2009/2010 Performing Arts Series, "Ball in the House is a tour de force of vocal sound that must be heard and seen to be believed. They are unbelievably good," says Gloria Short, program coordinator. A review from the Boston Globe put it succinctly: "Ball in the House has everything you would expect to find in a successful pop/rock band...the one thing it doesn't have is instruments."

  • Multi Arts Center's Holiday Gift Gallery features work from 65 Oklahoman artists

    The City of Stillwater Multi Art Center (MAC), 1001 S. Duck, invites the public to shop at its 23rd Annual Holiday Gift Gallery.

    The Holiday Gift Gallery offers unique items available for purchase, from high-end fine art to more affordable pieces. A variety of artistic mediums are represented, including painting, pottery, jewelry, blown glass and sculpture. Also available are accessories and Christmas ornaments.

    The gallery features art from 65 Oklahoma artists. “If you are looking for handmade, original works of art, the Multi Arts Center is the place to go. And remember you are supporting local artists,” said Jessica Novak, MAC supervisor.

  • City welcomes Valerie Silvers as new grants coordinator

    The City of Stillwater welcomes Valerie Silvers as the new grants coordinator in the Department of Development Services. Silvers comes to the City with 18-years of federal and state grants experience, having previously worked for the Oklahoma Economic Development Association in western Oklahoma where she was involved in grant writing, reporting, monitoring, and evaluating of federal and state programs. She later transferred to Stillwater and worked as the assistant director for the East Central Workforce Development Association, which covered a seven-county area, including Payne County.

  • City and County agree to pave Sangre Road between 32nd and 44th

    At a recent meeting, Stillwater City Council approved an agreement between the City of Stillwater and Payne County to pave Sangre Road between 32nd Avenue and 44th Avenue.

    Although the project will result in the paving of the entire mile-long section of the roadway, the city’s portion of the project will include only the west half of Sangre Road from 32nd Avenue to the southern end of Woodland Trails’ subdivision. This section of the roadway is located within the city limits, while the remainder of the road is located within the county’s jurisdiction.

  • New Third Saturday Book Club announced

    “I'm really excited about this,” said Freeman. “In the coming moths, we have a fascinating and challenging selection of books that should appeal to both men and women. I'm looking forward to riveting discussions on both classic and contemporary books.”

    The January book selection is a novel entitled “Atonement,” by Ian McEwen. The book is a gripping tale of duplicity and intrigue where things are never quite what they seem. It won theWH Smith Literary Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Los Angeles Times Prize for Fiction, and the Santiago Prize for the European Novel.

  • Library celebrates America Recycles Day with recycles crafts and free recycling bins

    Throughout October, the library accepted entries in its “Rewind, Reuse” videocassette tape makeover contest. Nearly 20 projects were entered.

    “We have always had a difficult time finding something to do with VHS tapes,” said librarian Andrea Duncan. “They are hard to recycle and not very crafting friendly.” Duncan changed her mind upon seeing the myriad of ideas represented by the contest entries.

    The City of Stillwater Electric Utility Department recently installed a new 300kVa transformer bank to provide power for the new outdoor ice rink, which will be located on 7th Avenue between Main and Lewis Streets.

  • Call for Artists for 33rd Annual Stillwater Arts Festival

    The 33rd Annual Stillwater Arts Festival to be held April 17-18, 2010, is now accepting artists' applications online at stillwater.org.

    Applications are being accepted in following categories: oils and acrylic; watercolor; caricature; pencils, charcoal and pastels; photography; metals; glass; jewelry; pottery (thrown, hand built and sculpted); wood; and fibers. Entries will be reviewed by an expert panel of three jurors for spaces at the annual fine arts show. The 2010 festival will be presenting $1,400 in jury awards.

    The early bird deadline is Feb. 19, 2010, when the fee for a 12' by 12' booth is $80. Entries postmarked between Feb. 20 and April 2, 2010, will be charged $110. The notification process begins March 5, 2010.

  • Lakeside Golf Course announces new 2 p.m. twilight golf hours

    Lakeside Golf Course is offering a new time for Twilight golf. From now until Nov. 30, area golfers will be able to tee off starting at 2 p.m.

    The green fee for weekday twilight is $13.60/ with cart is $21.21, while the weekend green fee is $15.80/ with cart is $23.41. (Fees include tax).
